Brick City - Firewise Homeschool Science & Ecology

This program is for ages 9-12

$25 per registrant, per month

9am-11am on Tuesdays

Our homeschool Science & Ecology program will provide a captivating journey of discovery while gaining a profound understanding of the natural world and a lifelong appreciation for the environment. Please note that this homeschool class will include small field trips.

The spring semester of homeschool ecology and science is all about wildlife and wild spaces. We seek to teach our students the value of a balanced ecosystem. This means learning about conservation and the best practices of land stewardship. The big focus is on taking the classroom outdoors. Hikes and trips to local parks and museums will be a regular part of the curriculum. Along with each area of focus we will learn names of plant and animal species we encounter and discuss their role in the ecosystem as well as our role in helping them to thrive.

March: Wild spaces and water resources. Discovering protected conservation areas such as wetland recharges, national forests and greenways. We will discuss karst topography in depth to foster an understanding of our rivers and springs. We will learn what makes a healthy river ecosystem and why it is important to protect this natural resource as well as develop an understanding of the water cycle and our aquifer system. We will visit places such as The Florida Greenway, Wetland Recharge Park, Ray Wayside Park and Silver Springs State Park.

There will be no class on March 12th for Spring Break.
