The use of metal detectors within county-owned or managed park facilities may only be performed with a permit from our office.
Cost
Upon approval, a metal detecting park pass will cost $10 (plus tax & administrative fee). Call 352-671-8560 for more information.
Rules & guidelines
- Pass must clearly be visible on the pass holder while metal detecting.
- Metal detecting activity may only occur during the normal operating hours.
- Items of archeological or cultural significance may not be kept. Discovery of such items must be reported to the park ranger immediately.
- Metal detectors or digging tools are not permitted at Horseshoe Lake Park & Retreat, Fort King National Historic Landmark or any county-owned or maintained sports fields.
- Metal detectors or digging tools are not permitted in areas that may be deemed significant. A significant area is one that may contain historically or culturally significant items or an area related to a crime.
- If restricted items are kept, or if metal detectors or diggings tools are used in restricted areas, penalties may be enforced.
- Metal detecting activity must not disturb other guests.
- Where holes are made to extract found items, each hole must be backfilled & compacted to prevent injury and to prevent further damage to the site.
