Our homeschool Science & Ecology program will provide a captivating journey of discovery while gaining a profound understanding of the natural world and a lifelong appreciation for the environment. Please note that this homeschool class will include small field trips.
The spring semester of homeschool ecology and science is all about wildlife and wild spaces. We seek to teach our students the value of a balanced ecosystem. This means learning about conservation and the best practices of land stewardship. The big focus is on taking the classroom outdoors. Hikes and trips to local parks and museums will be a regular part of the curriculum. Along with each area of focus we will learn names of plant and animal species we encounter and discuss their role in the ecosystem as well as our role in helping them to thrive.
April: Talking about fire! We will discuss forest succession and undergrowth management so that students will understand the life cycle of a forest and the role fire plays in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. We will talk about fire safety, prescribed burns and the professionals that perform these duties. We hope to visit recently burned forest sites to see new growth and include interactions with members of the Forestry Service.
